Modi: Strategic Partnership Between Russia and India is a Vital Pillar of Regional and Global Stability
Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi described his bilateral meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin on the sidelines of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) summit in Tianjin, China, as "excellent," stating that their special and privileged strategic partnership remains a vital pillar of regional and global stability.

Kokcha News Agency – In a post on his social media account on platform X, Modi, who met Putin during the SCO summit in Tianjin, China, wrote in both English and Russian: “Had a very good meeting with President Putin on the sidelines of the SCO summit. We discussed ways to deepen bilateral cooperation in all areas, including trade, fertilizers, space, security, and culture.”
He added, “We also exchanged views on regional and global developments, including the peaceful resolution of the Ukraine conflict. Our special and privileged strategic partnership continues to be a vital pillar of regional and global stability.”
According to a statement released by the Indian Ministry of External Affairs, the two leaders discussed economic, financial, and energy cooperation during their talks in Tianjin, expressing satisfaction with the steady growth of relations in these areas.
The ministry further stated, “The two leaders also discussed regional and global issues, including the latest developments related to Ukraine. The Indian Prime Minister reiterated his support for recent initiatives to resolve the Ukraine crisis and called for an expedited end to the conflict and a sustainable solution for peace.”
Modi and Putin emphasized the importance of strengthening their special and privileged strategic partnership. The statement noted, “The Prime Minister informed President Putin that he looks forward to welcoming him to India for the 23rd annual summit later this year.”
50-Minute Talks in a Car
As reported by TASS, the talks between Putin and Modi began in an unusual format: the two leaders had a private conversation in Putin’s Aurus car on the way to the Ritz-Carlton Hotel in Tianjin, which temporarily served as the Russian President’s residence.
The motorcade carrying the two delegations arrived at the hotel, but Putin and Modi continued their conversation in the car. The discussion lasted for 50 minutes. Afterward, the leaders proceeded to the meeting room, where the delegations were waiting, and the session with the participation of both sides continued for another 50 minutes.
