Armenian National Assembly Speaker Criticizes Halt of Russian TV Broadcasts in Armenia

According to reports, Alen Simonyan, the Speaker of the Armenian National Assembly, emphasized that the suspension of certain Russian television channels broadcasting in Armenia warrants serious consideration.

Alen Simonyan warned that some Russian TV programs are damaging Armenia-Russia relations and could be used as tools for interference in Armenia’s internal affairs. He further claimed that these broadcasts might be financed by Samvel Karapetyan, a pro-Kremlin businessman.

Karapetyan, who owns Tashir Holding connected to Gazprom and is also a major figure in Armenia’s electricity sector, is known as one of those supporting Russia’s military actions in Ukraine. He has recently been detained amid allegations related to a purported “coup attempt” in Armenia.

Meanwhile, Armenia has completely suspended its activities within the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO), led by Russia. This move indicates a significant shift in Armenia’s alignment and approach towards regional security alliances.
