The United States Geological Survey (USGS) reported that a 5.6 magnitude earthquake shook parts of Afghanistan on Thursday night, September 4. The epicenter of the quake was located 14 kilometers east of Jalalabad, Afghanistan.
At this time, there is no detailed information available about casualties or damage caused by the earthquake. However, initial reports indicate that the tremor was felt in areas surrounding Jalalabad.
Eyewitnesses told Kokcha News Agency that several cities, including Kabul and Laghman, reported feeling a strong and prolonged quake.
Details of possible damage and casualties have not yet been released.
In the ongoing search and rescue operations in the earthquake-affected areas of Kunar, the bodies of hundreds more victims have been recovered from the rubble. As a result, the death toll has risen to 2,205, and the number of injured has reached 3,640. Rescue and relief efforts continue, with tents set up in various areas and the distribution of emergency aid proceeding in an organized manner.
