Alam Kohkan, Veteran Journalist and Uzbek Poet, Passes Away at 63 in the U.S.

Alam Kohkan, a prominent cultural and media figure in Afghanistan, passed away at the age of 63 in the United States. Born in 1962 in Faryab Province, Kohkan completed his education in law and political science and dedicated over four decades of his life to journalism, poetry, and Uzbek language literature.

Throughout his professional career, Kohkan played a crucial role in the establishment and development of Afghan media. He was involved in the founding of the private television network *Ayna* and served as the head of the Uzbek language department at *Ariana Television* for many years. Following the Taliban’s takeover of Afghanistan, he sought refuge in the United States, where he continued his cultural and literary activities.

Among Kohkan’s published works are the books *Uzbek Adabiyati Madaniyati* (Uzbek Literary Culture) and the poetry collection *Sin Uchun Yereldim*. He also authored numerous analytical, social, and cultural articles published in various newspapers. Additionally, he translated *The Kite Runner* by Khaled Hosseini and *The Pearl of Ghazni* by Nasir Ahmad Ahmadi into the Uzbek language.

The Afghanistan Journalists Support Organization described Kohkan’s passing as a significant loss for the country’s cultural and media community, praising his relentless efforts in promoting and strengthening Uzbek language and culture as an essential part of Afghanistan’s cultural and media heritage.
