Taliban’s Muttaqi: Girls’ Education in Afghanistan Suspended “Until Further Notice”
Amir Khan Muttaqi, the Taliban’s Foreign Minister, stated during a press conference in New Delhi that girls’ education beyond the sixth grade in Afghanistan remains suspended "until further notice."

Kokcha News Agency – In a press conference held in New Delhi, Amir Khan Muttaqi, the Taliban’s Foreign Minister, addressed questions about the status of girls’ education in Afghanistan. He confirmed that education for girls beyond the sixth grade remains suspended “until further notice.”
Muttaqi’s comments came in response to a question from an Indian journalist regarding the situation of women’s and girls’ education in Afghanistan. He stated that there are currently around 10 million students enrolled in schools across the country, including at least 2.8 million girls.
The Taliban’s Foreign Minister also mentioned that during his visit to Darul Uloom Deoband, a prominent Islamic seminary in India, he discussed the exchange of academic experiences between Afghanistan and the institution.
Since the Taliban’s return to power in August 2021, they have enforced a ban on education for girls beyond the sixth grade, drawing widespread international criticism. Despite repeated calls from the international community to reopen girls’ schools, the Taliban has yet to reverse its decision.
