Drone Attack Targets Global Sumud Flotilla in Tunisia

A drone attack targeted the main vessel of the Global Sumud Flotilla in a Tunisian port, as the humanitarian mission aimed to break Israel’s blockade of Gaza faced another act of aggression.

Kokcha News Agency – The Global Sumud Flotilla, a humanitarian mission aimed at breaking Israel’s blockade of Gaza, was targeted by a drone attack in Tunisia’s Sidi Bou Said port. The attack caused a fire on the Spanish vessel, part of the flotilla, which had set sail from Spain on August 31.

Francesca Albanese, the UN Special Rapporteur on Palestine, confirmed the attack via social media, stating that the flotilla’s main vessel was hit by a drone while in port. Albanese also emphasized that the other two vessels in the flotilla urgently need protection.SUMUD-FILOSU-TEKNESINE-DRONLU-SALDIRI_268675_media1 Drone Attack Targets Global Sumud Flotilla in Tunisia

Details of the Attack
Vail Nevvar, an executive member of the Tunis Declaration for the Global Sumud Flotilla, provided details of the attack during a live broadcast. According to Nevvar, a drone launched a fire-causing substance at the Spanish vessel, resulting in a fire on part of the ship.

Security forces in the port area have heightened security measures and closed the port to vehicles and pedestrians. No official statement has been issued by Tunisian authorities regarding the attack.

The Global Sumud Flotilla
The Global Sumud Flotilla, supported by activists from over 44 countries, aims to challenge Israel’s blockade of Gaza and deliver humanitarian aid. The flotilla’s name, “Sumud,” which means “steadfastness” or “unwavering determination” in Arabic, has become a symbol of Palestinian resilience and non-violent resistance since the 1967 Six-Day War.

The flotilla, which includes activists from various countries, including dozens of Turks, is set to depart from Tunisia on September 10. After gathering in Tunis, the vessels plan to sail towards Gaza, joining other ships from Italy along the way.
