Kokcha News Agency – In a statement, Hamas condemned Israel’s systematic destruction of the education system in the Gaza Strip, claiming that over 785,000 students have been deprived of their right to education due to targeted attacks on schools and universities.
The statement highlighted that the new academic year has begun in the occupied West Bank and Jerusalem, but in Gaza, the education system has been paralyzed for three years due to Israel’s ongoing “genocide, bombing, starvation, displacement, and forced migration.”
Destruction of Educational Infrastructure
Hamas reported that Israel has deliberately targeted over 90% of school and university buildings in Gaza, destroying the entire education system. The statement emphasized that there is no longer a safe or suitable place for education to continue in Gaza.
Casualties in the Education Sector
According to the statement, Israel’s brutal attacks have resulted in the deaths of over 19,000 students and the injury of nearly 29,000 others. Additionally, more than 1,000 teachers and administrators have been killed, and around 5,000 have been injured in Gaza and the West Bank.
The statement also noted that over 230 academics have been killed, and more than 1,420 have been injured.
Systematic Violations of International Law
Hamas accused Israel of systematically violating international law and norms by targeting the education system. The statement described Israel’s actions as a “desperate attempt to erase the deep-rooted national identity of the Palestinian people,” but emphasized that such efforts would fail.
Call to Action
Hamas called on the international community and academic institutions to take effective steps to punish Israel, stop its attacks on the Palestinian people, and prevent further targeting of the education system. The statement also urged for a stronger academic boycott of Israeli institutions involved in these crimes.
