Donald Trump Meets Qatari Prime Minister and Foreign Minister in New York

WASHNGTON (Kokcha News) — U.S. President Donald Trump held a dinner meeting with Qatari Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani in New York on Friday. Hamad Al-Muftah, Deputy Head of Qatar’s Mission in Washington, described the meeting on platform X (formerly Twitter) as a “wonderful dinner with the American president that just ended,” without providing further details. The White House also confirmed the dinner but offered no additional information.

The meeting came days after Israel launched an airstrike on Hamas leadership in Doha, killing five Hamas members, including Jihad Lubbad (the office manager of Hamas Gaza chief Khaled Meshaal) and his son Hamam Meshaal, as well as a Qatari security official. Qatar condemned the attack, reserving the right to respond to what it called an “aggression.”

Hamas confirmed the survival of its negotiating delegation led by Khaled Meshaal, but the attack disrupted talks on a new U.S.-proposed deal to end the war in Gaza, where Israel has killed over 64,000 people since October 2023. Qatar has been a key mediator in negotiations to end the conflict.

Trump expressed strong disapproval of Israel’s unilateral action, stating it did not serve U.S. or Israeli interests.

Prior to the dinner with Trump, Sheikh Mohammed met with U.S. Vice President JD Vance and Secretary of State Marco Rubio at the White House. The discussions focused on strengthening the strategic partnership between Qatar and the U.S. and addressing regional developments.

Vice President Vance reiterated U.S. solidarity with Qatar, emphasizing that “diplomatic solutions are capable of resolving outstanding issues in the region.” He praised Qatar’s mediation efforts and its role in promoting peace, calling Qatar a “trusted strategic ally of the United States.”

In response, the Qatari Prime Minister affirmed that Qatar would take all necessary measures to protect its security and sovereignty in the face of Israel’s “blatant attack.” He expressed Qatar’s appreciation for its close partnership with the U.S. and its support for Qatar’s sovereignty and peace efforts in the region.
