7.4 Magnitude Earthquake Strikes Russia’s Kamchatka Region
A powerful 7.4 magnitude earthquake struck early Saturday near the east coast of Russia’s Kamchatka Peninsula, according to the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS). The epicenter was located 111.7 kilometers (69.3 miles) east of Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky, the administrative center of the Kamchatka region, at a depth of 39 kilometers.

The Pacific Tsunami Warning System initially issued a warning about a potential tsunami threat but later removed it from its website. The Japan Meteorological Agency also alerted coastal areas about possible slight changes in sea levels but noted that the likelihood of significant damage was minimal.

This earthquake follows a series of five powerful quakes that hit the Kamchatka Peninsula on July 20, 2025, the largest of which was also a 7.4 magnitude tremor.

As of now, there have been no reports of injuries or major damage from the latest quake. Authorities continue to monitor the situation closely.
