Luxembourg Prepares to Recognize Palestinian State at UN General Assembly
The Luxembourg government has announced its intention to recognize the State of Palestine, aligning with the two-state solution principle and coordinating with the international community.

Kokcha News Agency – Luxembourg is preparing to recognize the State of Palestine, according to reports in the Luxembourg press. Prime Minister Luc Frieden and Foreign Minister Xavier Bettel have stated in parliamentary speeches that the government intends to recognize Palestine, emphasizing that this step is based on the principle of a two-state solution and is being coordinated with the international community.
The recognition is expected to be announced during the United Nations General Assembly, following initiatives by France and Saudi Arabia. Luxembourg is reportedly working to clarify the timing of the diplomatic process and ensure international coordination.
In a joint statement with Iceland, Ireland, Norway, Spain, Slovenia, and Malta, Luxembourg called on the Israeli government to urgently reverse its current policies. The statement highlighted the humanitarian catastrophe in Gaza, where over 50,000 men, women, and children have lost their lives, and warned that many more could die of starvation in the coming days and weeks.
The statement urged all parties to immediately begin negotiations for a ceasefire and the release of prisoners, noting the crucial role of the United States, Egypt, and Qatar in this process. It also stressed that lasting peace can only be achieved through a two-state solution and reaffirmed Luxembourg’s commitment to supporting the Palestinian people’s right to self-determination.
The statement condemned the escalating tensions in the West Bank, stating that the rise in settler violence, the expansion of illegal settlements, and the intensification of Israeli military operations are unacceptable. It also emphasized that the forced displacement or expulsion of the Palestinian people is a violation of international law.
