Kokcha News Agency: Iran has recalled its ambassadors to Germany, France, and the United Kingdom for consultations over the dispute mechanism to reinstate UN sanctions, according to the country’s Mehr state news agency.
The move comes after a Russian and Chinese draft resolution to delay the revival of international sanctions on Iran failed at the 15-member UN Security Council on Friday. Only four countries supported the resolution, paving the way for the reimposition of sanctions.
The dispute centers around the U.S.-led effort to trigger the “snapback” mechanism under the 2015 Iran nuclear deal (JCPOA), which would reinstate UN sanctions lifted under the agreement. Iran, along with Russia and China, has opposed the move, arguing that the U.S. has no legal standing to trigger the mechanism after withdrawing from the JCPOA in 2018.
