Israel to Vote on Death Penalty for Terrorists

Kokcha News Agency – Israel’s National Security Committee has approved a bill that would impose the death penalty for «terrorists», paving the way for it to be voted on in the Knesset.

According to Israeli state television KAN, the bill will need to pass three readings in the Knesset to become law.

The bill, which was pushed through the committee by far-right National Security Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir, faced objections from the Prime Minister’s Office and the Attorney General.

Ben-Gvir insisted that the bill is an “urgent necessity,” despite calls to delay the discussion.

The explanatory notes of the bill state that terrorists convicted of murder motivated by racism or hostility toward the public, and who aim to harm Israel or the Jewish people’s revival in their homeland, will be subject to mandatory death sentences.

However, the newspaper Yedioth Ahronoth reported that the Attorney General’s objections may prevent the bill from reaching the Knesset for its first reading.
