Kokcha News Agency – As Israel continues its military operations in the Gaza Strip, internal criticism is growing. Ami Ayalon, former director of Shin Bet, Israel’s internal security service, stated in an interview with Deutschlandfunk radio that the war in Gaza has only two purposes: to keep Netanyahu in power and to ensure that his ongoing corruption trial does not result in imprisonment.
Ayalon expressed his disappointment with Germany’s stance, saying he had expected Germany to recognize the State of Palestine given its historical responsibility due to the Holocaust. “Recognizing the State of Palestine actually creates hope,” he said.
Ayalon emphasized that over 70% of the Israeli population believes the war in Gaza is not only unjust but also completely unnecessary and dangerous for the country’s future. He warned that the ongoing attacks in Gaza are jeopardizing Israel’s ability to survive as a Jewish democratic state.
“We have reached a point where nothing can be achieved through military means,” Ayalon said, adding that Israel’s political system has lost the ability to understand that an unjust war is being waged.
