Taliban Publicly Execute a Man in Badghis

The Taliban’s Supreme Court issued a statement today confirming the public execution of a man named Ismail, a resident of Jawand district in Badghis province. Ismail was accused of the premeditated murder of a man named Dost Mohammad and a woman named Gulberg.

According to the court, Ismail shot and killed both victims with a rifle. The case was reportedly reviewed by the primary, appellate, and supreme courts of Badghis, and the death penalty was issued after a thorough examination.

The Supreme Court stated that the case was then presented to Taliban leader Hibatullah Akhundzada for final approval. After reviewing the case, Akhundzada confirmed the death sentence.

The court added that the families of the victims were offered the option to pardon Ismail, but they rejected the offer. Following this, Akhundzada ordered the execution to be carried out.

The execution took place in the Qala-e-Naw sports stadium, attended by local Taliban officials, the governor of Herat, and a large crowd of people.

This marks the eleventh public execution carried out by the Taliban in the past four years. The group has previously executed ten other individuals in the provinces of Farah, Ghazni, Laghman, Jowzjan, Badghis, and Nimroz, often in the presence of hundreds of spectators.
