UN: Gaza Deadliest Place for Journalists in All Conflicts

The United Nations revealed that nearly 90% of journalist killings worldwide remain unresolved, with Gaza being the deadliest location for media workers in all recorded conflicts.

UN Secretary-General Spokesperson Stéphane Dujarric, speaking at a daily press briefing, highlighted the dangers journalists face globally, particularly in Gaza. The remarks came ahead of November 2, the International Day to End Impunity for Crimes Against Journalists.

Dujarric stated, “Almost 9 out of 10 journalist killings remain uninvestigated. Gaza has been the deadliest place for journalists in all conflicts to date.” He reiterated Secretary-General António Guterres’ call for “independent and impartial” investigations into these killings, stressing that impunity undermines press freedom and democracy.

“When journalists are silenced, we all lose our voice,” Dujarric added.

Israel faces accusations of killing over 250 journalists in Gaza during its two-year offensive, with many allegedly targeted while on duty.
