Erdoğan Urged International Community to Support Syria and Afghanistan Amid Ongoing Crises
Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, during his speech at the 17th Summit of the Economic Cooperation Organization (ECO), strongly criticized Israel’s aggressive policies, warning that they threaten peace and stability in the region.

President Erdoğan stated that the current Israeli government’s intensified aggressive policies pose a significant threat to peace and stability in the Middle East.
He emphasized the importance of not forgetting the Palestinian cause and preventing the region from becoming a “bloodbath” under Prime Minister Netanyahu’s leadership.
Erdoğan also highlighted Turkey’s commitment to environmental sustainability, outlining the country’s National Energy Efficiency Program, which aims to reduce carbon dioxide emissions by 100 million tons between 2024 and 2030.
He noted that the Zero Waste Project has already prevented the production of approximately 6 million tons of greenhouse gases, adding that the Zero Waste initiative strengthens Turkey’s fight against climate change.
In his speech, Erdoğan expressed support for the security, stability, and development of the Afghan people, calling for international efforts to support Afghanistan. He also urged the development of relations with Turkish Cypriots in various fields, including sports, culture, economy, and tourism.
Erdoğan also underscored Turkey’s commitment to environmental sustainability through the Zero Waste Project, which he said has added strength to Turkey’s efforts in combating climate change. He noted that the project has already prevented the production of approximately 6 million tons of greenhouse gases.
Erdoğan congratulated Azerbaijan on Shusha being selected as the ECO Tourism Capital for 2026 and expressed confidence that the decisions made in Erzurum, the 2025 ECO Tourism Capital, would guide future tourism cooperation.
On regional security, Erdoğan condemned Israel’s aggressive policies under the current administration, warning that they threaten the peace and stability of the Middle East. He called for an immediate end to the violence in Gaza, where nearly 57,000 people have lost their lives, and reiterated Turkey’s support for the Palestinian cause.
Erdoğan also addressed the situation in Syria, expressing hope that the international community would continue to support the country financially and advance relations with its new administration. He emphasized the need to support the Afghan people in their quest for security, peace, and development, and extended condolences to Pakistan following a recent terrorist attack.
Support for Turkish Cypriots
Erdoğan highlighted the importance of unity and solidarity within the ECO, particularly in supporting Turkish Cypriots, who have faced unjust isolation for decades. He called for enhanced relations with Turkish Cypriots in various fields, including sports, culture, economy, and tourism.
