Elon Musk explained his strategy: Is he establishing a new party?

Billionaire Elon Musk has once again generated speculation about forming a new U.S. political party by posting social media polls and hinting at strategic plans amid ongoing tensions with former President Donald Trump.

Elon Musk, the world’s wealthiest individual and owner of the X social media platform, fueled discussions on potential new political movements in the United States. On July 4th, a significant symbolic date, Musk posted a poll asking, “Should we form the American Party?” with around 240,000 participants. The poll showed 62% in favor and 38% against, indicating a notable level of support.

Following the poll, Musk provided insights into his strategic thinking for establishing a new party. According to Axios, Musk suggested focusing efforts on just a few key Senate seats and about eight to ten House districts. He explained that by targeting tight margins in the legislature, the new party could influence legislation on controversial issues and better reflect the true will of the people.

Notably, Musk’s posts do not explicitly state he will run for office or create a full-fledged party immediately, leading many to interpret his comments as exploratory or experimental.

Background & Tensions:
The idea of a new party gained momentum earlier in July after Musk publicly supported the notion, citing widespread public dissatisfaction. He referenced a previous poll implying that 80% of Americans desired a new political option. However, Musk’s recent activities appear entwined with his disagreements with Trump following the passage of a major tax reduction bill called the “Big and Beautiful Law,” which Trump has strongly supported.

Trump, in turn, has expressed disappointment with Musk, especially after Musk criticized the tax cuts, claiming Musk’s influence in the electric vehicle industry is waning and warning that Musk could lose even more if he continues to criticize Trump’s policies. Trump recently joked about Musk potentially needing to be “eaten” by the “Government Efficiency Department,” a playful jab referencing Musk’s diplomatic ties with government agencies.

While Musk does not mention any specific elections, his provocative social media activity continues to stir speculation about his possible political ambitions or influence on the American political landscape.
