Trump Announces 60-Day Ceasefire Proposal Amid Escalating Gaza Conflict
U.S. President Donald Trump has proposed a 60-day ceasefire in the ongoing Israel-Hamas conflict, prompting mixed responses from involved parties and signaling potential progress in negotiations amid ongoing violence and humanitarian crises.

Earlier, Donald Trump announced a “final proposal” for a ceasefire lasting 60 days in the nearly 21-month-long war between Israel and Hamas, expressing hope that both sides would respond within hours. Hamas, in return, announced via its official website that they had completed internal consultations and discussions with Palestinian factions regarding the mediator’s proposal, and that their response was positive. The militant group emphasized their readiness to immediately begin negotiations on implementing the ceasefire.
Despite this, concerns remain over humanitarian aid, the crossing at Rafah to Egypt, and clarity on Israeli troop withdrawals, according to a Palestinian official affiliated with Hamas. Trump stated that Israel had agreed to the conditions necessary to finalize the ceasefire, and he expressed his desire for a swift resolution, noting that he would hold Prime Minister Netanyahu “very firm” on the matter.
Meanwhile, Netanyahu has yet to publicly comment, and reports indicate that Israel is reviewing Hamas’ response. Egypt and Qatar, mediating efforts, also noted positive signs but highlighted some demands from Hamas that need addressing.
Overnight, Israeli attacks resulted in at least 138 Palestinian deaths in Gaza, including strikes on displacement camps and military targets—highlighting the ongoing violence and humanitarian toll. Families in Gaza mourn their loved ones, with stories of children like 13-year-old Mayar Al Farr grieving her brother killed while seeking aid.
In Israel, protests took place on U.S. Independence Day, with demonstrators urging Trump to secure the release of hostages held by Hamas. Of the more than 600 captives, some are believed to be alive after over 600 days in captivity, while others, like 19-year-old soldier Itay Chen, are presumed deceased.
Negotiations are ongoing, with proposals suggesting the return of 10 hostages during the ceasefire period, but efforts to secure the release of all captives and de-escalate violence continue amid mounting civilian casualties.
