Taliban Detains at Least 37 People in Badakhshan’s Khash District Amid Ongoing Protest Clashes

Local sources in Khash district, Badakhshan, report that the Taliban have arrested at least 37 individuals in response to recent protests, with most detainees being villagers and demonstrators. The arrested persons have reportedly been transferred to Fayzabad, the provincial capital.

Kokche News Agency states that protests erupted in Khash from early July, following the Taliban’s mistreatment and discriminatory actions against residents. The unrest has led to violent clashes, during which at least eight people, including a woman, were killed, and 27 others wounded.

Sources reveal that the market in Khash remains closed and there are reports of Taliban misconduct towards local civilians. The protests initially began around July 9, triggered by reports of abusive behavior by Taliban forces, which further intensified the unrest.

Over the past few days, fears are growing about the ongoing arrests and increased violence carried out by Taliban forces. The Taliban have not yet issued any official statement regarding these events.
