Over 50,000 Pregnant and Breastfeeding Women in Gaza Face Severe Hunger and Lack of Support

More than 50,000 pregnant and nursing women in Gaza are suffering from extreme hunger with no access to food, baby formula, or medical care, as the ongoing blockade leaves humanitarian aid blocked and the situation rapidly deteriorates.

Kokcha News Agency reports that the United Nations has issued a dire warning about the humanitarian crisis facing pregnant and breastfeeding women in Gaza. With aid corridors still blocked, over 50,000 women in Gaza have gone days without adequate nutrition. This alarming situation poses critical risks to maternal health and the survival of their infants.

According to the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA), Israel’s complete blockade has prevented essential aid from entering Gaza, forcing women in vulnerable conditions to endure pregnancy or nursing under severe malnutrition. The UN warns that this has led to an increase in premature births, underweight infants, and higher risks of chronic illnesses and death among newborns.

The UNFPA also stated that “infant formula in Gaza has run out,” and many malnourished mothers are unable to breastfeed their babies. Markets are depleted of baby formula and suitable food for infants, compounding the crisis’s severity.

The international community has been urged to immediately open humanitarian routes into Gaza to facilitate the delivery of vital supplies, including food, medicine, and hygiene items. Humanitarian experts warn that the ongoing blockade not only breaches fundamental humanitarian principles but could lead to a full-scale catastrophe if aid access is not restored.

Gaza has endured relentless bombardment and total siege for months. With war ongoing and humanitarian routes blocked, women, children, and the ill are experiencing a rapidly worsening crisis. Despite repeated appeals from international organizations, no concrete action has yet been taken to deliver aid.

The continued closure of humanitarian access in Gaza is transforming an already critical crisis into an imminent tragedy. Pregnant and nursing women are now the face of this escalating emergency, highlighting the urgent need for international intervention.

As global leaders remain hesitant to act, the people of Gaza, especially the most vulnerable, are facing an unthinkable humanitarian disaster. Immediate action is essential to save lives and prevent further suffering.
