Israel Strikes Syrian Military Headquarters in Damascus Amid Ongoing Tensions

Explosions were reported in the Syrian capital of Damascus, with the Israeli military confirming that it had targeted the entrance of the Syrian General Staff Headquarters in the city.

Kokcha News Agency reports: Sirens and a loud explosion were heard in the Syrian capital of Damascus, according to state media. The Syrian state news agency SANA reported that the nature of the explosion is under investigation.

Shortly after, the Israeli military issued a statement acknowledging that it had carried out an attack on the entrance of the Syrian General Staff Headquarters in Damascus. This information was also corroborated by the Turkish state-run Anadolu Agency.

Prior to the Israeli military’s confirmation, two Syrian security sources had told Reuters that Israel had targeted the Syrian Defense Ministry in Damascus.

The latest Israeli airstrikes come amid ongoing clashes between security forces and armed groups in the Druze-majority province of Sweida in southern Syria. Yesterday, Israeli fighter jets conducted seven air raids on a military airport east of Sweida and the city center.

In its statement, the Israeli military said it continues to monitor the regime’s actions against Druze civilians in southern Syria and carries out attacks in the region based on political directives, while also preparing for various scenarios. The Israeli military also announced that it would reinforce its forces along the Syrian border.

The escalation of violence in Syria and Israel’s continued airstrikes underscore the complex and volatile situation in the region, as various parties maneuver to protect their interests and influence the course of the conflict.
