Syrian Government Condemns “Shameful” Violations in Suwayda, Vows to Hold Perpetrators Accountable

Kokcha News Agency: The Syrian Presidency has issued a statement condemning the recent events in Suwayda province, labeling the violations as “shameful” and promising that those responsible will be held accountable. The statement, released by the Presidential Press Office, emphasized that all incidents in Suwayda will be thoroughly investigated, and perpetrators, regardless of their identity, will face justice.

The statement also reaffirmed the government’s commitment to justice, ensuring the rights of the people of Suwayda are protected, and rejecting any attacks on these rights. It stressed that violations against civilians are unacceptable and that the government is determined to maintain security and stability across the country.

Druze Refugees from Golan Heights:
Following the clashes in Suwayda, reports indicate that many Druze who crossed into Syria from the Israeli-occupied Golan Heights have not returned. The Israeli military announced that barriers and fences along the border with Syria will be reinforced to prevent further crossings. While dozens of Druze have been returned, efforts continue to bring back others who have moved deeper into Syrian territory.

Among those who crossed into Syria is Israeli Knesset member Afif Abed from the Likud party. In a statement, Abed’s office said he could not stand by while his Druze relatives in Syria suffered, prompting him to enter Syria. Abed is reportedly staying in Syria to assist Israeli forces in persuading the Druze to return and is in constant contact with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.

Ongoing Tensions:
Tensions remain high in Majdal Shams, a Druze-majority town in the Golan Heights, following the events in Suwayda. Protests in support of Druze relatives in Syria continue near the border fences, with Israeli soldiers struggling to contain the unrest.
