In response to the growing humanitarian crisis caused by the increasing number of Afghan migrants being deported from neighboring countries, Norway has stepped in with a donation of over $99,000 (10 million Norwegian krone) to support repatriation efforts.
The funds, announced by Norway’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, will be allocated through the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) to assist in the safe and orderly return of Afghan refugees. This comes as both Iran and Pakistan have significantly intensified their efforts to expel Afghan migrants, putting immense pressure on Afghanistan’s already strained resources.
In recent months, the number of Afghan migrants returning from Iran and Pakistan has surged, creating a humanitarian challenge for the Afghan government and international organizations. The returnees face significant difficulties in accessing basic necessities such as housing, healthcare, and employment opportunities.
The situation has exacerbated Afghanistan’s existing struggles with widespread poverty, ongoing conflict, and insufficient infrastructure. The international community, including Norway, is playing a crucial role in providing support to mitigate the crisis.
Norway’s donation is part of its emergency reserve budget, which is specifically designated for humanitarian relief efforts. The funds will help address the immediate needs of returning migrants and support long-term reintegration programs.
