UN Food and Agriculture Organization Reports Extensive Damage from Floods in Afghanistan

Kokcha News Agency – According to the FAO, in Maidan Wardak province alone, more than 50 irrigation canals and approximately 885 hectares of agricultural land have been destroyed, affecting the lives of over 18,000 people.

The organization stated in a statement on its X account that damage assessments are ongoing and that programs for immediate assistance and damage recovery are being prepared in cooperation with international partners.

Images released from the flood-affected areas show that agricultural land, rural infrastructure, and residential houses have been destroyed in the path of the water.

Afghanistan has faced severe climate change, reduced vegetation cover, and soil erosion in recent years, which has exacerbated the occurrence of flash floods.
