The Taliban has handed over a draft agreement to the Pakistani delegation following marathon negotiations in Istanbul. According to informed sources, the proposal underscores respecting Afghanistan’s territorial integrity and preventing anti-Taliban factions from operating out of Pakistan.
The draft also proposes establishing a quadrilateral mechanism to monitor and share intelligence on potential ceasefire violations. The second round of talks, which began yesterday, continues today with mediators present. The outcome could determine whether a final deal is reached under the framework of the Doha ceasefire agreement.
Pakistan maintains that the core focus of discussions should be Kabul’s “decisive and irreversible measures” against groups like Tehrik-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP), which it blames for cross-border attacks. Last month, Pakistan conducted airstrikes on Afghan territory twice, alleging that the Pakistani Taliban uses Afghan soil to launch attacks.
