German Chancellor Praises Israel’s “Dirty Work” / Merz’s Policy Toward Iran: The Use of Terrorism

German Chancellor Friedrich Merz has controversially praised Israel’s illegal attack on Iran as "dirty work" carried out on behalf of Western countries, while defending the use of terrorism against Iran.

Kokcha News Agency: German Chancellor Friedrich Merz, in a provocative and undiplomatic statement, described Israel’s illegal attack on Iran as “dirty work” that the regime carried out on behalf of Western countries. This comes as Western nations, including Germany, France, and the UK, have largely refrained from condemning the attack and instead praised it as a step toward “global peace.”

Merz’s comments have drawn sharp criticism, particularly as they come in the wake of Israel’s unilateral and illegal military strike on Iran’s nuclear facilities. The attack, which was carried out without any imminent threat or authorization from the UN Security Council, has been widely condemned as a violation of international law.

Despite this, Merz has doubled down on his support for Israel’s actions, stating that he has “no doubt about the legality and legitimacy of Israel’s actions from the perspective of international law.” This stance has been contradicted by a recent report from the German Parliament’s scientific service, which expressed “serious doubts” about the legality of the attack.

In a particularly shocking moment, Merz used the term “dirty work” to describe Israel’s actions during a press conference at the G7 summit in Canada. When asked by a German state television reporter if it was “tempting” to let Israel carry out the “dirty work” of bombing targets in Iran, including nuclear facilities, Merz responded by thanking the reporter for using the term and expressing his “utmost respect” for Israel’s “courage” in carrying out the attack.

The attack on Iran’s nuclear facilities, which took place in June 2025, was carried out by Israel with the support of the United States. The strike targeted facilities in Natanz, Fordo, and Isfahan, using bunker-busting bombs in an operation dubbed “Midnight Hammer.” While U.S. President Donald Trump hailed the attack as a “great success,” initial reports suggested that it had only set back Iran’s nuclear program by a few months, rather than completely destroying it.

Criticism and Backlash:
Merz’s comments have sparked outrage both domestically and internationally. Critics have accused him of blatantly disregarding international law and supporting state-sponsored terrorism. Members of his own coalition government have also expressed concern, with some calling for a more measured and diplomatic approach to the situation.

In an open letter addressed to Merz, a group of Iranian residents in Germany condemned his remarks and called for an end to Germany’s support for Israel’s war crimes, including its illegal attacks on Iran and its actions in Gaza. The letter, which was published on the Left Berlin website, also demanded that Merz apologize for his offensive and anti-Iranian rhetoric.

Merz’s History of Supporting Terrorism Against Iran:
Merz’s recent statements are not the first time he has expressed support for actions against Iran. As the leader of the opposition in Germany, Merz had previously offered political asylum to Jamshid Sharmahd, an Iranian-German terrorist and leader of the Tondar group, which has carried out numerous attacks in Iran. Merz described Sharmahd’s execution in Iran as a “horrible crime” and called for the expulsion of the Iranian ambassador from Germany and a downgrading of diplomatic relations between the two countries.

Friedrich Merz’s recent statements and actions have signaled a significant shift in Germany’s policy toward Iran, moving away from diplomacy and toward support for military action and terrorism. This stance is expected to have a reciprocal impact on Iran’s foreign policy toward Germany, further escalating tensions between the two nations.
