Convoy Enters City Center to Evacuate Bedouin Families in Suwayda

A convoy of 11 buses has entered the city center of Suwayda, Syria, to evacuate Bedouin families held in areas controlled by Druze leader Hikmet al-Hijri’s armed groups following clashes that began on July 13.

Kokcha News Agency: In the wake of escalating violence in Syria’s Suwayda province, a second evacuation convoy consisting of 11 buses has arrived in the city center to evacuate Bedouin families. The families have been held in areas controlled by armed groups loyal to Druze leader Hikmet al-Hijri since clashes erupted on July 13.

The evacuation is part of a ceasefire and evacuation agreement reached between the Syrian Interior Ministry and Hijri’s forces. The convoy is expected to move along Highway 109 towards Daraa province, with plans to evacuate Christian families from the region as well.

During the operation, three security personnel were injured when Hijri’s forces opened fire at a checkpoint near the village of Walga, attempting to prevent tribal fighters from entering Suwayda. The Syrian Arab Red Crescent and Civil Defense teams are overseeing the evacuation process.

This marks the second evacuation operation, following the first on July 21, when four buses and approximately 20 private vehicles transported Bedouin families to Daraa and surrounding rural areas.
