French Culture Minister Rachida Dati to Face Trial for “Corruption” and “Influence Peddling”

Kokcha News Agency: French Culture Minister Rachida Dati has been accused of receiving €900,000 from an automotive group to carry out lobbying activities during her tenure as an MEP. Investigative judges in Paris have ruled that Dati and former CEO Carlos Ghosn will face trial in the Paris Criminal Court on charges of “corruption” and “influence peddling.”

The first hearing of the trial is scheduled for September 29, during which the trial dates will be set. Dati’s lawyer, Olivier Pardo, has announced that they will appeal the decision.

Dati, who served as an MEP from 2009 to 2019, is expected to run for mayor of Paris in next year’s municipal elections. The National Financial Prosecutor’s Office (PNF) launched an investigation in 2019 to determine whether Dati had received money for lobbying activities during her time in the European Parliament.
