Putin’s Limited Reaction to Trump’s Policy Shift Toward Moscow
Russian President Vladimir Putin has shown little reaction to Donald Trump’s significant policy shift toward Moscow, as tensions between the two countries escalate over military aid to Ukraine and threats of broader sanctions, according to The Guardian.
Kokcha News Agency: The Guardian reported on Tuesday, July 22, that relations between Russia and the United States have significantly deteriorated following President Trump’s announcement of military aid to Ukraine and threats of extensive sanctions against Russia.
Despite his disappointment, Putin has reportedly prioritized military objectives in Ukraine over diplomatic engagement with the US. Trump, after several unsuccessful attempts to reach an agreement with Putin on a ceasefire, expressed frustration and announced a new package of military aid to Ukraine.
Trump warned that if a peace agreement is not reached within 50 days, tougher sanctions will be imposed on Russia and its allies. This comes as tensions between Russia and the US have reached their highest point following the escalation of sanctions and the delivery of military equipment to Ukraine.
The current situation has been further complicated by the hardline positions of both sides and their reciprocal responses, severely limiting the scope for diplomacy.
