A spokesperson for the Iranian judiciary, Asghar Jahangir, announced on Monday that 935 people were killed during the 12-day air war between Iran and Israel, according to the latest forensic data. The death toll includes 38 children and 132 women, marking a significant increase from the previous estimate of 610 deaths provided by the Iranian health ministry before a ceasefire went into effect on Tuesday last week.

Jahangir also revised the number of people killed in an Israeli strike on Tehran’s Evin Prison to 79, up from the earlier figure of 71.

The conflict began on June 13, when Israel launched an air war targeting Iranian nuclear facilities and killing top military commanders as well as civilians. This attack was described as the worst blow to the Islamic Republic since the 1980s war with Iraq, according to Reuters.

Iran retaliated with barrages of missiles on Israeli military sites, infrastructure, and cities. The United States entered the war on June 22 with strikes on Iranian nuclear facilities.

Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmaeil Baghaei condemned Israel’s actions, stating that the “act of aggression had led to many war crimes.” He said Iran would transfer evidence to international organizations and called for Israel to be held accountable.

Baghaei told reporters at a regular press briefing: “The Zionist regime’s (Israel) action was done without any reason or justification, therefore we do not believe in separating military and civilian (victims).” He added that any “martyr or destroyed building is an example of war crimes.”

The conflict has drawn widespread international attention, with calls for accountability and an end to hostilities. The sharp increase in the death toll highlights the devastating human cost of the air war, particularly for civilians, including women and children.
