🇸🇾🇮🇱Syria and Israel Experience New Tensions Amid Security Negotiations

According to The Jerusalem Post, Syria and Israel are experiencing renewed tensions as Damascus explicitly stated that Israel will not be allowed to attack Syrian territory under any agreement. Security negotiations between the two countries are ongoing, with Israel seeking freedom to intervene against alleged threats in exchange for withdrawing from the occupied buffer zone.

The Jerusalem Post reported, citing unnamed sources, that Syria and Israel are experiencing new tensions as Damascus has explicitly stated that Israel will not be allowed to attack Syrian territory under any agreement or treaty.

The report claims that security negotiations between Israel and Syria are taking place within the framework of expanding the Abraham Accords (normalization agreements) that Israel signed with the UAE, Morocco, and Bahrain during the first term of former U.S. President Donald Trump in 2020.

On the other hand, Israel is demanding that the Syrian government allow it the freedom to carry out attacks to intervene against alleged threats in exchange for withdrawing from the occupied buffer zone.

The report noted that Israel has recently softened its tone toward Syria. However, informed sources involved in the negotiations said that even if an agreement is reached, “at least in the first stage, it will be a cold peace.”

One source stated that at this stage, instead of a peace agreement, a “security agreement aimed at cooperation against threats” will be established.

Following the end of Israel’s attacks on Iran, the expansion of the Abraham Accords has become one of the most important agendas for the country.
