Israeli Strikes Kill 62 in Gaza, Including 19 Waiting for Food Aid, as Famine Looms

Israeli airstrikes in Gaza have killed 62 people, including 19 who were waiting in line for food aid, according to Al Jazeera on Tuesday, July 29. The attacks come as a global hunger monitoring agency warns that the “worst-case famine scenario” is now unfolding in the besieged enclave. The agency highlighted that Israel’s intensifying blockade has cut off vital supplies, exacerbating the humanitarian crisis and leaving millions of Gazans facing extreme shortages. The situation has reached a “deadly and deeply alarming stage,” with urgent international action needed to prevent further mass suffering.

Data reveals that nearly 17 out of every 100 children under five in Gaza are suffering from severe malnutrition, underscoring the severity of the crisis.

These concerns follow Israel’s announcement on July 27 that it would pause military operations for ten hours each day to allow new humanitarian aid routes into Gaza. While aid agencies welcomed the pause, they warned that it is insufficient, urging a full ceasefire and unrestricted aid access to avert a looming catastrophe.
