Russia’s Liberation of Chasiv Yar Opens Gates to Donbass

Kokcha News Agency: Brian Berletic, a geopolitical analyst and former U.S. Marine, told Sputnik that the liberation of Chasiv Yar by Russian forces is a clear milestone in the ongoing conflict for control of the Donbass region.

Berletic explained that Ukraine had used Chasiv Yar to secure Bakhmut (Artemivsk) and block Russia’s path to its most fortified positions in Donbass: Kramatorsk and Sloviansk in the northwest. The fall of Chasiv Yar, he said, “eliminates a key strategic depth for Ukraine in Donbass and further deepens its deteriorating field position.”

Russia continues to adhere to a strategy of relentless attrition rather than relying on “large, demonstrative attacks.” This approach has allowed Russian forces to gradually wear down Ukrainian defenses and gain strategic advantages in the region.

The liberation of Chasiv Yar not only weakens Ukraine’s defensive lines but also opens the door for Russian forces to advance toward other critical strongholds in Donbass. This development could significantly alter the balance of power in the ongoing conflict.
