The Media Support Organization has launched a campaign to support Afghan journalists facing the risk of expulsion from Iran and Pakistan, calling for an end to forced deportations and urging the international community to accelerate their relocation to safer countries.
Kokcha News Agency: The Media Support Organization has announced the launch of a campaign to support Afghan journalists at risk of expulsion from Iran and Pakistan. The organization aims to halt forced deportations, draw global attention to the issue, and expedite the process of relocating these journalists to safer countries.
In a statement released on Sunday, August 19, the organization called on social media users to join the campaign using specific hashtags. The campaign emphasizes three key messages: “No to the expulsion of journalists from Pakistan and Iran,” “Accelerate the process of relocating journalists to safe countries,” and “Being a journalist is not a crime.”
The organization, which supports journalists, also issued a statement yesterday demanding an end to the expulsion of Afghan journalists from Iran and Pakistan.
The organization reported that its leadership held an online meeting on August 17 with journalists residing in these countries to discuss their challenges and difficulties. During the meeting, participating journalists highlighted issues such as visa non-renewal, the invalidation of official letters from embassies and international organizations by local police, increased security pressures and restrictions, and difficult economic and legal conditions.
Proposals discussed during the meeting included financial commitments from international organizations to hire defense lawyers, coordination with Pakistani and Iranian authorities to support journalists, the creation of a special support fund, the issuance of valid identification cards, the organization of specialized training programs, and the launch of an online advocacy campaign.
