Afghan Women Protesters in Pakistan: August 15 is a Dark and Tragic Day in Afghanistan’s History

Members of the United Women’s Movement for Freedom in Pakistan have marked August 15 as a dark and tragic day in Afghanistan’s history, emphasizing the loss of freedoms and the beginning of a repressive era for women.

Kokcha News Agency: On the anniversary of the Taliban’s takeover of Afghanistan, women activists in Pakistan have condemned August 15 as a “black and tragic day” in the country’s history. Members of the United Women’s Movement for Freedom in Pakistan highlighted the severe restrictions and oppression faced by Afghan women since the Taliban’s return to power in 2021.

The activists stated that August 15 marked the collapse of freedoms and the onset of a dark period characterized by widespread repression, particularly against women. They emphasized that despite the challenges, Afghan women have shown remarkable resilience and courage in the face of adversity.

“This darkness has never been able to break the will and courage of Afghan women,” the group declared. “They have stood firm against oppression and raised their voices in resistance to reclaim their trampled rights.”

The Taliban’s return to power has led to the imposition of strict measures targeting women, including bans on education, employment, and freedom of movement. These restrictions have drawn international condemnation and sparked protests both within Afghanistan and among the Afghan diaspora.

The women’s movement in Pakistan has joined the global call for the restoration of women’s rights in Afghanistan, urging the international community to take stronger action to support Afghan women and hold the Taliban accountable for their actions.

The activists also paid tribute to the bravery of Afghan women who continue to resist the Taliban’s oppressive policies, emphasizing that their struggle is a testament to the unyielding spirit of Afghan society.
