Floods Hit India: At Least 40 Dead, Over 120 Injured

Kokcha News Agency – Torrential rains have triggered devastating floods in India’s Jammu and Kashmir regions. Authorities reported that at least 40 people, including two army personnel, have died in the floods that hit the Chashoti village in the Kishtwar district of Jammu and Kashmir. Over 120 people have been injured, and more than 220 are still missing.

Officials stated that rescue operations are underway, involving the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), State Disaster Response Force (SDRF), army, police, and local volunteers. So far, 120 people have been rescued.

During the disaster, a community kitchen distributing food was swept away by the floodwaters, leading to casualties among those involved in the distribution. Authorities warned that the condition of the injured is critical, and the death toll is expected to rise.

Condolences from Indian Leaders
The Indian Ministry of Home Affairs issued a statement, assuring that the government is closely monitoring the situation and stands in solidarity with the people of Jammu and Kashmir under all circumstances.

Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and President Draupadi Murmu expressed their condolences for the lives lost in the floods. Modi stated, “We are making every effort to ensure that assistance reaches all those affected by the disaster as quickly as possible.”
