Purple Saturdays Movement Calls for Uprising Against Taliban
The Purple Saturdays Movement has declared August 15 as a national day of mourning for Afghan women and called for a national uprising to overthrow the Taliban regime, accusing the international community of failing to ensure gender justice.
Kokcha News Agency – The Purple Saturdays Movement, following protests in Kabul, Takhar, and Herat, has declared August 15 as a national day of mourning for Afghan women and a symbol of the global community’s structural failure in achieving gender justice.
In a statement issued on Friday, August 24, the movement emphasized that over the past four years, the United Nations and countries claiming to support human rights have chosen to engage with the Taliban rather than take a firm stand against the group.
The statement highlighted that the Taliban, through their medieval policies and ideology, have deprived women of the right to protest, detaining them in intelligence-run prisons, subjecting them to torture, sexual abuse, and even execution.
The movement called for the recognition of Afghan women’s right to protest, immediate monitoring of Taliban prisons, and the formation of a legitimate, democratic, and decentralized government through free elections.
Purple Saturdays urged the Afghan people to launch a national uprising against what it described as the Taliban’s anti-human and anti-Islamic crimes and to overthrow the self-proclaimed regime.
