Taliban Leader’s Message in Jowzjan Read Only in Pashto
Local sources in Jowzjan province report that the message from the Taliban leader was read only in Pashto during mosque sermons, despite the majority of the population being Uzbek-speaking.

“Kokcha News Agency” – Local sources in Jowzjan province have revealed that on the occasion of the fourth anniversary of the Taliban’s takeover, the message from the group’s leader was read only in Pashto during mosque sermons.
On Saturday, August 25, sources told the Rawayat News Agency that over 80 percent of Jowzjan’s population is Uzbek, with Uzbeki being their native language. However, mosque imams delivered the Taliban leader’s message without translating it into Dari or Uzbek.
Local residents have criticized this move by the Taliban, calling it a sign of ethnic bias and disregard for the language and culture of the people of Jowzjan. They warned that such actions could lead to dissatisfaction and widen the gap between the people and the Taliban government.
This comes as the Taliban has consistently promoted ethnic and linguistic biases in recent years, with many official signs, documents, and announcements across the country being changed to Pashto.
