Zelensky wrote, “I would like to thank U.S. First Lady Melania Trump for her attention to one of the most painful and difficult issues of this war—the abduction of Ukrainian children by Russia. We deeply appreciate her compassion and the letter she wrote to Putin.”

He emphasized that this issue lies at the heart of the ongoing humanitarian tragedy, stating, “Our children, broken families, the pain of separation. At least 20,000 children have been abducted.”

Zelensky also revealed that he had handed over a letter of gratitude from Ukraine’s First Lady, Olena Zelenska, to U.S. President Donald Trump to pass on to Melania Trump. “Her voice is important, and her sensitivity strengthens this cause,” he added.

The Ukrainian president reiterated his commitment to bringing all abducted children back home, as well as securing the release of Ukrainian prisoners of war and civilians who have been held in Russia, some since 2014, under terrible conditions. “There are still thousands of people who need to be freed, and this issue is also part of achieving peace,” Zelensky said.

He pledged to continue efforts for a comprehensive prisoner exchange, stating, “We will try to negotiate the exchange of all prisoners of war, and we are grateful to have strong friends who are helping us.”

In his message, Zelensky also tagged European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen and quoted a post by U.S. President Donald Trump, who highlighted joint efforts to address the issue of “missing children worldwide.”
