Elections Postponed in Sweida, Hasakah, and Raqqa in Syria
Syria’s parliamentary elections, initially planned for September, have been postponed in Sweida, Hasakah, and Raqqa provinces until "a secure environment is established."

Kokcha News Agency – Syria’s High Committee for People’s Assembly Elections announced that the parliamentary elections scheduled for September have been postponed in Sweida, Hasakah, and Raqqa provinces until “a secure environment is established.”
This decision comes despite Syrian President Ahmed Shara’s emphasis on holding elections in all provinces. Nawar Najmeh, spokesperson for the High Committee, stated that the seats allocated to these three provinces will remain vacant until elections are held. Najmeh emphasized that “elections are a sovereign matter that can only be conducted in areas under full government control.”
The elections are significant as they mark the first parliamentary vote since the ousting of Bashar al-Assad in December last year. Earlier, Muhammad Taha Al-Ahmad, head of the High Committee, announced that the number of seats in the People’s Assembly would increase from 150 to 210, with elections originally planned for September 15-20.
