Israeli Warplanes Strike Yemeni Capital, Targeting Presidential Palace and Power Plants

Israeli warplanes carried out a series of strikes in the Yemeni capital, Sanaa, targeting the presidential palace, power plants, and other infrastructure, according to a military statement on Sunday.

Kokcha News Agency – Israeli warplanes launched a series of airstrikes in the Yemeni capital, Sanaa, on Sunday, targeting key infrastructure, including the presidential palace and power plants. The Israeli military claimed the strikes were aimed at Houthi infrastructure, including the Asar and Hizaz power plants, a fuel storage site, and a military site where the presidential palace is located.

Israel’s public broadcaster KAN reported that 14 fighter jets participated in the attack, dropping approximately 40 munitions on Sanaa.

Houthi-run Al-Masirah TV confirmed the attacks, stating that the strikes hit a facility of the Yemen Petroleum Company on the 60 Meters Road and the Haziz Central Power Station in the Sanhan district, south of Sanaa. The same power plant was targeted in an Israeli airstrike on August 18.

An official from the Houthi-run Defense Ministry claimed that the majority of Israeli aircraft had been neutralized and were forced to withdraw.

Civil defense teams were reportedly working to extinguish fires caused by the Israeli strikes in southern and western Sanaa.

The Houthi-run Health Ministry reported that two people were killed and 35 others were injured in the strikes.

The Israeli army stated that Sunday’s strikes were in response to repeated Houthi attacks against Israel. The military alleged that the Houthis used cluster munitions in a missile attack on Israel on Friday, marking the first time since 2023.

Since November 2023, the Houthis have launched missile and drone strikes on Israeli targets and targeted commercial shipping in the Red Sea, Gulf of Aden, and Arabian Sea in support of Palestinians in Gaza, where over 62,600 people have been killed in the Israeli offensive.
