Afghan Citizen Executed in Iran Amid Rising Executions of Afghans
The human rights organization Hengaw reported on Wednesday the execution of an Afghan citizen, Ahmad Yousefi, in Qezel Hesar Prison in Karaj, Alborz province, Iran.

Kokcha News Agency: Hengaw reported on Wednesday, September 5th, the execution of an Afghan citizen named Ahmad Yousefi in Qezel Hesar Prison in Karaj, the capital of Iran’s Alborz province.
The organization wrote in a report that in addition to Mr. Yousefi, three other prisoners were executed on this day, two of whom were Iranian Kurds. Hengaw, quoting informed sources, wrote that Ahmad Yousefi had previously been convicted of “rape.” It is not known whether this prisoner had access to a lawyer.
The Islamic Republic of Iran has not yet commented on the execution of this Afghan citizen. Hengaw named the other executed individuals as Fereydoun Mohammadi, Hesam Mohammadi, and Hossein Biabani. These prisoners had been sentenced to death on charges related to drug offenses and murder.
In November 2024, the Iran Human Rights Organization announced that the execution of Afghans in the country has increased since the Taliban took control. The Islamic Republic executed at least 80 Afghan citizens in 2024. This statistic shows that the execution of Afghans in 2024 has tripled compared to the previous year in 2023.
