Mullah Hebatullah Silent on Girls’ Education in Meeting with Taliban Education Officials
The Taliban say their leader addressed officials from the Taliban's Ministry of Education during a three-day meeting in Kandahar. According to the Taliban's statement, Hebatullah Akhundzadeh spoke about the "value and necessity of science, education, and training" but did not mention the educational deprivation of millions of girls.
Kokcha News Agency: The Taliban’s Arg (presidential palace) wrote in a newsletter on Thursday (September 6th) that the Taliban’s Minister of Education and a number of religious scholars were present at the seminar, and Hebatullah Akhundzadeh spoke about the “place of science in Islam.”
According to the Taliban’s announcement, Hebatullah Akhundzadeh said in his speech, “In the world, the sources of good that Allah Almighty has called good are the scholar, the learner, and the rememberer, and whoever helps them, in the science in which the knowledge of Allah Almighty, religion, and Sharia is found, has been praised and glorified in the Holy Quran and Hadiths.”
The Taliban leader has banned girls’ education above the sixth grade, and for nearly four years, millions of Afghan girls and women have been deprived of education and work. The International Criminal Court recently issued arrest warrants for the leader and chief justice of the Taliban for human rights violations.
