Israeli Foreign Minister: We Are Facing Political Isolation and Siege

Israeli Foreign Minister Gideon Sa’ar has acknowledged that Israel is facing political isolation and siege globally, while accusing the United Nations of politicizing reports of hunger in Gaza.

Kokcha News Agency – In an interview with The Wall Street Journal, Israeli Foreign Minister Gideon Sa’ar addressed global efforts to recognize a Palestinian state and accused the United Nations of politicizing official reports of famine in Gaza.

Sa’ar warned that international recognition of Palestine would be seen as a victory for Hamas following the October 7th attack (Operation Al-Aqsa Storm). He criticized French President Emmanuel Macron for his stance on Israel, stating that Israel is currently dealing with political challenges and global isolation more than military threats.

The Israeli Foreign Minister also accused European countries of supporting Palestine and described the decision by the UK, France, Canada, and Australia to recognize Palestine as an existential threat to Israel.

Sa’ar acknowledged the worsening humanitarian crisis in Gaza but claimed that aid to the Strip has significantly increased, leading to a sharp drop in the prices of basic necessities. He baselessly accused the UN of politicizing reports of famine and hunger in Gaza, indirectly blaming Hamas for the crisis while absolving Israel of responsibility.

Sa’ar admitted that Israel is paying a heavy diplomatic price for the war in Gaza and said that any ceasefire agreement must ensure the disarmament of Hamas and prevent another October 7th.

Global Efforts to Recognize Palestine

Gideon Sa’ar traveled to the U.S. on Monday, coinciding with global efforts to recognize a Palestinian state. During his participation in the “Conference of Presidents of Major American Jewish Organizations” in New York, he warned against the recognition of Palestine, likening it to “suicide” for Israel. He emphasized that Israel cannot remain silent on this issue.

As the war in Gaza continues and the death toll rises, international pressure on Israel has reached new heights. Many countries, including European states, have described the current situation in Gaza as an unprecedented crisis, which could plunge Israel into a deep legitimacy and diplomatic isolation crisis.

More than 12 countries, including the UK, France, Canada, and Australia, have announced that they will take steps to recognize a Palestinian state in upcoming United Nations meetings.

Israel’s Diplomatic Crisis

Israeli officials are increasingly concerned about the expansion of international sanctions and are making extensive efforts to arrange a visit by former U.S. President Donald Trump to Israel. According to the Israeli media outlet i24 News, Israeli and American officials are coordinating for Trump’s visit to the occupied territories later this year.
