Shanghai Cooperation Organization Summit Adopts ‘Tianjin Declaration’

Kokcha News Agency: The Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) Summit in Tianjin, China, concluded with the adoption of the “Tianjin Declaration,” which highlighted the deep and historic transformations in global politics, economics, and international relations. The declaration emphasized the shift towards a more multipolar world while warning against the intensification of geopolitical divisions, which threaten the security and stability of the SCO region and the world.

The document indirectly referenced the tariff increases during the Trump administration in the U.S., noting the negative impact on the global economy, particularly international trade and financial markets. It also commemorated the 80th anniversary of the end of World War II and the founding of the United Nations (UN), stressing the importance of maintaining a peaceful and stable international order.

The declaration called for reforms within the UN to ensure greater representation of developing countries and to adapt the organization to current political and economic realities. It reaffirmed the SCO’s commitment to the principles of sovereignty, territorial integrity, non-interference in internal affairs, and the peaceful resolution of disputes.

The leaders also adopted the “SCO 10-Year Development Strategy,” aimed at furthering the organization’s role in promoting peace, stability, development, and prosperity in the region. Additionally, they condemned recent terrorist attacks in Pakistan and India-controlled Jammu and Kashmir, while approving Laos as a “dialogue partner” and the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) as an “observer.”
