Taliban’s “War on Drugs” – A Lie in Broad Daylight
While the Taliban claim to have eradicated drug trade, they are actively protecting opium markets in Badghis, even as they crack down on poppy farmers in Badakhshan.
Kokcha News Agency: Yesterday, we reported on the open opium market in Badghis. Today, we highlight the glaring contradiction in the Taliban’s so-called “war on drugs.”
In Badakhshan, the Taliban are known to shoot at poppy farmers, enforcing their ban on poppy cultivation. Yet, in Badghis, they openly guard the Friday opium bazaar, known as the “Yellow Sugar Market” in Qadis district, where opium is traded without any interference.
This stark contradiction reveals the true nature of Taliban rule: a mafia state where everyone is a criminal, but some are more criminal than others — as long as the money keeps flowing.
The Taliban, who claim to have ended the drug trade, are now actively securing dealers and buyers in Badghis, turning Afghanistan into a full-fledged narco-emirate.
While the world watches, the Taliban continue to profit from the very trade they claim to have eradicated.
