Danish Refugee Council Head Meets Taliban’s Migration Minister, Calls for Streamlined Aid Process

Kokcha News Agency – During a meeting with Khalil-ur-Rahman Haqqani, the Taliban’s Minister of Refugees, Charlotte Slente, Chair of the Danish Refugee Council, called for streamlined administrative processes to facilitate the timely delivery of humanitarian aid to Afghanistan. Slente highlighted that, in addition to short-term assistance, long-term solutions must be considered to address the migration crisis.

According to the Taliban’s Ministry of Refugees, Slente expressed concern over the forced deportation of Afghan migrants from Iran and Pakistan, pledging to raise these issues with officials from both countries.

Slente also confirmed that immediate aid from the Danish Refugee Council has already been sent to eastern Afghanistan, where a devastating earthquake recently struck. She added that the challenges faced by Afghan migrants would be discussed during side meetings at the United Nations Security Council.

The Taliban’s Ministry of Refugees stated that the meeting focused on aid for earthquake victims and support for deported migrants. Haqqani requested the Danish Refugee Council’s cooperation in providing cash assistance and rebuilding homes for those affected by the disaster.

This meeting took place as Afghanistan grapples with a deepening humanitarian crisis, driven by the mass deportation of migrants from neighboring countries, deadly natural disasters linked to climate change, and widespread human rights violations by the Taliban.

According to official Taliban figures released on Friday, the death toll from the earthquake in Kunar has exceeded 2,200, with over 3,600 injured. Local officials have warned that the number of casualties could rise further, as some villages remain completely destroyed and inaccessible due to blocked roads.
