Kokcha News Agency– A tragic armed attack targeted the Salih İşgören Police Station in İzmir’s Balçova district, resulting in the martyrdom of two police officers and injuries to three others, including two officers and a civilian. The attacker, identified as a 16-year-old high school student, opened fire with a pump-action rifle.
The martyred officers were identified as 1st Class Police Inspector Muhsin Aydemir and Police Officer Hasan Akın. The injured officers, Ömer Amilağ and Murat Dağlı, were rushed to Dokuz Eylül University Research and Application Hospital for treatment. The civilian injured in the attack was discharged after receiving treatment at Atatürk Training and Research Hospital.
The suspect, who was also injured during the incident, was taken into custody and is currently receiving medical treatment. İzmir Governor Süleyman Elban confirmed that the attacker used a rifle owned by his father, purchased 10 years ago.
In response to the attack, İzmir Chief Public Prosecutor Ali Yeldan and other officials visited the scene and the hospital to gather information. Interior Minister Ali Yerlikaya condemned the attack, expressing condolences to the families of the martyred officers and wishing a speedy recovery to the injured.
Justice Minister Yılmaz Tunç announced that a comprehensive investigation has been launched, with two deputy chief prosecutors and six prosecutors assigned to the case. The investigation is being conducted meticulously to uncover all aspects of the incident.
Governor Elban stated that the attacker had no prior criminal record and had not been involved in any previous incidents. He also denied rumors that the attacker had visited the police station to file a complaint related to domestic violence.
