Taliban Announce Agreement with Turkey and Iran for Railway Development
The Taliban's Ministry of Public Works announced on Saturday, November 3rd, an agreement with Turkey and Iran to expand cooperation in the railway sector. The ministry stated that it was agreed to start the Herat-Mazar-i-Sharif railway construction project with joint cooperation, utilizing financial, technical, and human resources from Turkey, Iran, and Afghanistan.
Kokcha News Agency: Mohammad Ishaq Sahibzada, Deputy Minister of Public Works of the Taliban, met with officials from Turkey and Iran on the sidelines of the 36th regional meeting of the International Railway Union in Turkey.
The Taliban’s Ministry of Public Works says that the meeting discussed the importance of connecting Afghanistan, Iran, and Turkey through railways and the transit of commercial goods.
According to the news release, Turkish officials said that with joint cooperation, they would be able to connect the Turkish and Iranian railways to China via Afghanistan.
It was also stated that connecting the Middle East railway network and the European railway network to East Asia through the development of the Khaf-Herat railway to Mazar-i-Sharif was considered the best route for transit.
