KABUL (Kokcha.News) — US Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth has issued a stern warning to civilian and military personnel who celebrated or mocked the killing of Charlie Kirk, a Republican conservative activist known for his close ties to former President Donald Trump.
Hegseth, in a statement on social media platform X, emphasized that such behavior is unacceptable and that those involved are being closely monitored, with appropriate actions to be taken.
The warning comes after some Defense Department employees were found to have made celebratory or mocking remarks about Kirk’s death on social media. Hegseth stated that such actions are intolerable and that those responsible will face consequences.
This follows a similar warning from the US State Department, which urged immigrants in the country to refrain from making statements praising Kirk’s death, or else face legal repercussions.
Charlie Kirk, a prominent conservative activist and social media personality, was killed in a shooting at Utah Valley University on September 10. Kirk, who was known for his strong support of Donald Trump and his pro-Israel stance, was a popular figure among young conservatives and founded the nonprofit organization Turning Point USA to promote conservative ideas.
Following the attack, Donald Trump paid tribute to Kirk, calling him a “great and even legendary” figure and expressing his love for the activist. Tyler Robinson, a suspect in the murder, has been taken into custody.
